1988 Fender Strat Plus Graffiti Yellow
The first ever Strat Plus debuted in 1987 and was derived from a guitar that had been made in the Custom Shop for Jeff Beck. The series has went through various changes in its run from 1987-1999, but was always considered an industry standard for the working pro who needed a stable Strat that would always hold tune and be whisper quiet through an amp.
I’m a sucker for Strat Plus guitars, but this one is the holy grail... The Strat Plus concept was originally intended to be an artist model for the one they call Jeff Beck. In 1986, Jeff wanted a Strat for an upcoming tour that was painted the same color as the 1932 Ford Hot Rod in the movie “American Graffiti”. As the story goes, Jeff opted not to have an artist model at that time, but Fender ran with the idea anyways.
Here we have an late 1988 Fender Strat Plus in Graffiti Yellow. Fender offered many finishes, but Graffiti Yellow is the most desirable. This version has the brushed steel Schaller branded tuners and the non-split Wilkinson Nut.
This guitar is completely original and in fabulous shape. The frets have hardly any wear and will last a lifetime for most players. No signs of any fresh solder on any of the joints and the pickups function perfectly. The trussrod is fully functional and shows no signs of stripping. The owner of this instrument was meticulous and it certainly shows. He purchased it new in 1990 and has owned it ever since.
There are a couple of minor dings on the body near the arm rest and a minor finish crack near the neck pocket. Otherwise, this guitar is virtually flawless and is about as clean as you can find. The original case is in fabulous shape and I am including an original catalog from the late 80’s and a couple of Guitar Player Magazine cutouts of Jeff Beck with his Graffiti Yellow Strat from 1988.
This a collector grade Strat Plus with some awesome extras and would be an amazing addition for any Fender collector.
